University of Pori

The University consortium of Pori (UCPori) is an organisation of universities operating in the same area : depending on what they study, students at the campus of Pori either belong to the University of Turku or to the University of Tampere.

The Campus of Pori is situated on the north bank of the Kokemäenjoki River, one of the largest rivers in Finland. The main particularity of this university is that the building used to be a textile mill, that caught on fire in 1981 and was renovated for university purposes in 1999.

Tampere University’s Pori Unit mainly offers programmes in Technology and Social Sciences. As for the University of Turku, its campus in Pori offers programmes in Economy, Cultural Production and Landscapes Studies, and Maritime Studies.

University of Amiens

The first university of Amiens was founded in 1804, then dismantled in 1816 and re-founded in 1969 as UPJV (Université de Picardie Jules Verne). Jules Verne is a renowned science-fiction novelist who spent the last 34 years of his life in Amiens, therefore his influence is now found everywhere in the city.

UPJV now houses 11 faculties including sciences, Mathematics, Law, Foreign languages (our faculty!) and History, among many others. It also gathers 7 institutes and 35 research groups in the fields of Sciences, Health and Humanities. The university is composed of 6 main campuses scattered in Amiens, and smaller campuses in Creil, Beauvais, Laon, Saint-Quentin and Soissons.

The most recent campus in Amiens is known as the “Citadelle” and is a seventeenth-century stronghold rehabilitated in 2018 as a university. The buildings are brand new but the place is an interesting mix of two very different architectural styles, which makes it a beautiful campus vibrant with life and full of history.
